Rosemary Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Last weekend I visited my Dad in southern Alabama, the first stop on my trip out west. Knowing full well both my love for cooking delicious and nutritious foods he already had in mind a few things he wanted me to make him while I was there. It’s kind of the coolest thing ever to get to cook for a parent, especially when they ooh and awe over your food. My Dad is pretty much the best recipe taste-tester I have. He loves food just… Read More

Cauliflower & Leek Turmeric Fried Rice

Posted on

Recently I made this “fried rice” on a whim. Truthfully it was a throw together meal that turned out ridiculously good so I thought I should share with you. Fried rice from traditional Chinese takeout restaurants was go my favorite thing order pretty much all my life. Give me some fried rice, perhaps a hot and sour soup, make sure you include a fortune cookie (or two) and I was a happy camper. Follow & Share!

Five Spice Sausages

A few weeks ago I had friends in town visiting. I was so happy to have them here not just because I enjoy spending time with them but also because I loved cooking for them. We spent every morning enjoying the most awesome friends breakfasts and just about every day they’d say “OMG, I need the recipe for this.” Which made me of course feel so good about the food I was making them! One of those happened to be these five spice sausages.… Read More

Local’s Lamb Burger

One of my favorite lunch spots that I’ve ever been to, is this place called Local’s in Fairhope, Alabama where I used to live. One of the first time’s I went there was with my mom when my she visited. I kept saying that I wanted to go but never found the time or opportunity. Don’t you love it when someone comes to visit and you get to explore your own town as if you’re a visitor too? It’s awesome. So now that I’ve… Read More

It’s spring!! I can’t say how amazing it is to feel the lightness in the air. There’s a honeysuckle bush right outside my house and every time I step out I get a rush of it’s fragrance and I am enveloped by it’s sweet smell. It’s wonderful to hear the birds out, to feel the warm light on my skin as the sun is out. It’s just a beautiful time with the Earth coming alive again.  I feel a strongly that it’s time for our… Read More

Moroccan Lamb with Caramelized Fennel

You know the feeling when you crave a specific type of food? It’s all consuming, the feeling of “I gotta have it RIGHT now,” sorta thing swarms you and suddenly you’re possessed by only wanting that one food or flavor. This was me recently.  Craving like a mad person some sort of spice, curry-like dish that reminds me of when I used to enjoy Indian, Thai and Moroccan flavors like nobodies business. One of the key similarities in those foods is the spice, subtle in… Read More

Super Green Pesto with Red Snapper & Turnip Noodles

Posted on

Pesto was my thing. Is my thing actually and there are five simple ingredients that make a true pesto; a nut (traditionally pine nuts, though my favorite is pecan), a cheese (traditionally Parmesan, though my choice would be Pecorino), basil, high quality olive oil and fresh garlic. After living in Italy I know how the Italians feel about tampering with traditions, especially recipes. While living there I searched high and low for the most authentic  pesto and when I came home I aimed to recreate… Read More

Shepherd's Pie

The transition from winter into spring is here and we’re all anxious to celebrate! I think hunkering down with one last crazy cozy meal is just the way! I spent my weekend with a trip to the farmer’s market, some time in the sunshine but also a lot of time indoors, hunkering down working on projects and things I needed to get done. This meal was an easy one pan throw together that I knew would last me several meals. It’s warm spices take this… Read More

Lamb & Beet Greens Stuffed Acorn Squash

I am of the belief there’s nothing that cannot be combined, piled and squished into an acorn squash. Am I right? First of all, they are so darned cute! These petite squash have a ribbed silhouette that makes them a beautiful display. Serving them cut in half as a single portion is a great way to create what seems like a fancy meal, but takes little time and very few ingredients. If you make these and decide to keep them for meals throughout the week,… Read More
